Belongs to the 11th century in the middle age this crusader castle was built on historical road linking the Taurus mountains to city of Antakya. Castle has 8 round towers and military guardhouse has been made in the South of the castle.
There is also a church. The castle name was Govara but Moslem Saint Çelebi who passed there in 1671 introduced it as Şahmeran castle. Moslem Saint Çelebi tells in his famous historical travel book that when Ramazanoğulları captured the fort, Armenian priests inside were killed by snakebites and horned and hairy neck snakes were seen in the fort. The legend stil survives.
